Detox is not the destination. After laying aside the weights and sins that hold us back, we still have to ask two important questions: What am I running toward, and what is sustaining me for the race?
In Week 3 of Detox, we move from detox to discipleship. Hebrews 12:1–2 tells us not only what to lay aside, but where to look: Jesus. Just as a long-distance runner needs both focus and fuel, we need to fix our eyes on Jesus and continually receive from him.
We’ll explore what it means to move from running from sin to pursuing righteousness, from abstaining to feasting, and from simply removing unhealthy things to replacing them with practices that help us know Jesus, become like Jesus, and stay connected to him.
Scripture, prayer, Sabbath, fasting, community, silence, service, and generosity are not the point. Jesus is the point. These practices help us turn toward him, receive from him, and allow the Holy Spirit to form us into his image.
The next step is simple: choose one space you’ve created through detox and intentionally fill it with a practice that helps you focus on Jesus and receive from Jesus.
Fix your eyes on Jesus. Feed your life on Jesus. And keep running.
